Engineers who would like to have careers in management positions should seriously think about getting the PMP certification so that they can learn how to manage projects effectively. Getting the certification is a matter of passing the PMP exam which can be done with a bit of online PMP certification training.

Slope: A Colorado Mystery By Joseph McHale

Tom Ketchum is telling the story of a corrupt police chief, mayor, city manager. The town suffered from all the sleaze the crooks created and the citizens in business had to pay the town officials money or be shut down.

It all came out in the open when the police chief shot a deputy while he was going through the city manager's desk early one Sunday morning looking for evidence of the corruption. The police chief called the mayor and city manager for help to cover up the killing and hide the files containing the evidence. This took place before they called an ambulance for the dead deputy. When the paramedics got there the deputy wasn't dead, just unconscious. The bullets hit his Kevlar vest. The ambulance driver arrived in time to see the mayor and city manager putting the files in the truck of the car.

You'll be surprised at what this little town controlled in crime and more surprised at who their leader was.
The author wrote a very good book on crime and justice. With his experience in law enforcement he created a very interesting account of crime doesn't pay.

Not your typical mystery. The author's in depth knowledge of the world of law enforcement made this a real page turner. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

From the very first page of this book you are hooked! I wasn't expecting a shooting of a police officer in the first chapter and then the story only gets more intense with it's twists & turns. You find yourself cheering for the Good Guys and loathing the Bad Guys though you're really not sure Who's Who from chapter to chapter! The author immediately shows his detailed knowledge of police & investigative work and has you wondering if this might have really been one of his own cases...

I have to say that Mysteries are not one of my favorite reads but I read through this in record time and with excitement to see what happened next!

And...I will read his next book...No Doubt!

Random SLOPE Comments

Several readers gave verbal feedback and promised written feedback.  Most comments are similar.

" SLOPE: A Colorado Mystery was written in a different style than anything else that I read.  It was conversational and full of facts.  It showed that the author knew what he was talking about.  There was so much dialogue that it would easily make a great movie."

"I could picture the writer narrating the story.  It had constant twists and turns, leading to a surprise ending.  I can't wait fot the next book.  I hope Tom and Ellen are in the next book.  They have chemistry."

"It was really quite good.  I'm still reading it.  You can go back and re-read the book and see something you missed the first time through,"

"I knew it was good because I saw a sample draft of one chapter before it was published.  Now after four chapters, all I can say is WOW.  It is really good beyond what I remember."

SLOPE Written Review Letter

On Monday, December 27, 2010, Loretta Whalen wrote a review letter after reading SLOPE: A Colorado Mystery.  In her letter, Loretta, a retired executive secreetary, stated:

"Joseph McHale has written a realistic story about the criminal justice system in a small town in Colorado.  He presents a bird's-eye view of the intricacies and vicious schemes possible within that system.

It is a tale well told about how corruption can multiply within the most trusted law enforcement groups for long periods of time, until one occurrence changes the entire structure!

Joseph McHale delivers a thought-provoking first novel - the events of which will keep you in suspense from the first page to the last!"

Loretta Whalen's book critique

Loretta, thank you so very much for changing genres, buying and reading this book.  Your book critique is most appreciated.  Joe

Initial Reviews

Some initial reader comments include:  'My sister read the first chapter and when she left Arizona for Colorado, she took my book with her.'  'I started reading this book and I cannot stop.'  'This is a real page turner.'  'I read different parts of the book because I don't yet have time to completely read it.  I bought one for each of my children and their spouses. I am going to buy an ebook to take with me until I finish it.  I am getting a Kindle version for my wife.' 'I just finished Chapter 18.  This is awesome.'  'There were so many characters in the first chapter that I had to outline them.  Except for the multiple character difficulty, this is a really good page turner.  I didn't know cops were like that.'  'I learned a lot about police procedure, tactics and work lives.  This is a really good read.'

The negative comments were that there was no full development of the characters, and there were too many characters.  The readers who made these comments said that this was an exciting page turner.  All of these preliminary comments were made prior to full book reviews.  None of these comments came from readers with law enforcement background.
